On the 11th anniversary of the Tunisia terrorist attack, Birmingham FA officially unveiled a permanent memorial to Joel at its new astro pitch facility on Ray Hall Lane, Great Barr.

The striking installation is far more than a plaque. It is a lasting tribute to Joel’s life, his love of football, and the positive impact he continues to have through SmileforJoel. It stands as a permanent reminder of his character, dedication, and the legacy that continues to inspire so many.

Seeing it for the first time was an emotional moment. As the sun began to set, its light shone through the thousands of carefully crafted perforations that together form Joel’s portrait. The further away you stand, the clearer his image becomes, creating a truly unique and powerful piece of memorial artwork.

Joel’s passion for football lives on, and through the work of SmileforJoel, his legacy continues to make a difference in communities across the country. This memorial ensures that everyone who visits these pitches will be reminded of the remarkable young man behind that legacy.
