When I arrived at our accommodation my daughter had purchased us all Smile for Joel wristbands which we wore all week and have not taken them off. (see photo) I managed to get time for long walks in the forest and took time to reflect on what had happened since my Dad was murdered in the spring.
I often looked at the wristband and felt comforted that I am not alone in my thoughts. It really reminded me that other families can get through such a tragic and traumatic loss and in time even go on to do lovely things to help others.
Spending this quality time in our lodge with my children and grandchildren was a great comfort. Although we speak daily on the phone I do not always feel able to talk and /or listen.
This special time away in the lodge gave me the frequent hugs and reassuring looks from my daughters. This was enough for me to know they are always there to support me and I’m not alone.
We spoke about how easy it is to forget this sometimes when speaking on the phone. Since returning home I feel lighter, and stand taller with the weight of what has happened to my family being lifted slightly.
My whole family says thank you SmileforJoel for this gift of a family break.
